The state of Indiana is home to Noblesville. Indianapolis is approximately 21 miles to the south of Noblesville, making it the most populous city in close proximity to the town.

The year 1818 marks the beginning of Noblesville's history. That year, the United States government bought the territory that is now Hamilton County from the indigenous people who lived there. Around the year 1802, William Conner, who was the only resident in the area at the time, and his wife Mekinges Conner, who was a Lenape woman, founded the first trading station in central Indiana and resided in the area's first log home. Mekinges Conner was a Lenape woman.

In the year 1823, William Conner and Josiah Polk laid out what is now the downtown area of Noblesville. The next year, in 1824, Noblesville was selected as the county seat for Hamilton County, and in 1851, the town was incorporated. Conner's house, which was built in 1823, is now part of the Conner Prairie Pioneer Village, which is a living history museum located near Fishers, Indiana, south of Noblesville.

Noblesville experienced its first significant phase of growth during the Indiana gas boom, which began in 1888 with the finding of the city's first natural gas well near the intersection of 11th and Pleasant streets. During this period of prosperity, a large number of Victorian residences, as well as the majority of the downtown commercial sector, were constructed.

The population of the city increased by another significant amount not too long ago, rising from 28,590 in the year 2000 to 51,969 in the year 2010. Its rise mirrors the population boom that has taken place throughout much of southern Hamilton County as a direct result of the area's close proximity to Indianapolis.
